In the starting of November, WhatsApp (Facebook-owned) and the National Payments Corporation of India (UPI) has revealed that WhatsApp will start the services of UPI payments soon. Based on the WhatsApp official, ‘WhatsApp in partnership with NPCI has designed our payment facility using Unified Payment Interface (UPI), an India-first, a real-time payment system that enables transactions with over 160 supported banks.’
According to the NPCI’s official statement which was issued on 5Th November 2020 said, “WhatsApp could expand its UPI user base in a graded manner beginning with a maximum of 20 million registered user base in UPI.”

To set up the WhatsApp UPI account makes sure that you install the latest version of WhatsApp on your Android or iOS phone. How To Setup WhatsApp Pay Account?
For all the Android devices click on the three dots button on the top right side of your screen. FOr iOS, click on the Settings option on the bottom right side after opening the application.
Click on the Payments option. Select “Add Payment Method”. Accept the terms & conditions page of WhatsApp payment policies. Click on ‘Accept and Continue’.
Then a list of bank page opens, select the bank from which you want to make the transactions. Also, if you have two bank accounts with one bank, select the bank account, with which you want to make the payments. If you have two bank account with one bank, choose the bank account through which you make the transaction. Whereas it is important to ensure that the WhatsApp mobile number is the same which is linked to your bank account. Because you received the SMS for the purpose of verification.
After the verification, you have to required to set up a UPI Pin for safe & secure payments.
How to send money via WhatsApp?
The payment through WhatsApp is easy as the other payment options like PhonePe.
Open your contact list and select the contact who you want to transfer the funds. Choose the select the payment option. If the front person has not used the WhatsApp pay option, then you can transfer the funds with the help of UPI ID or another option. WhatsApp will show the pop up if your contact has not used the Send to UPI ID’ option.
As well as, You can also transfer money using the Scan QR Code option.
Step 2: Enter the amount and your UPI PIN to order to pay the money. Once the correct PIN is entered, the amount will be automatically transferred to the receiver’s bank account.
How To Receive Money From WhatsApp Pay?
If the sender has WhatsApp Pay: If the sender pays you through WhatsApp Pay, then they have to follow all the steps which we mentioned above.
If the sender does not have WhatsApp Pay: If in some case the sender does not have the WhatsApp pay account, then you still receive the money. The sender has to enter your WhatsApp pay UPI ID in the payment platform such as Google Pay, PhonePe and etc to send the money.
